Joan Leroux has spent nearly a decade at the intersection of healthcare technology and provider operations, with the last five years focused on behavioral health. As Chief Revenue Officer at Kipu Health since 2021, she has led the company through sustained growth, driving more than 200% ARR growth while transforming how Kipu goes to market. Her career spans executive sales leadership at ADP Canada, PointClickCare and Adlib Software, where she built deep expertise in enterprise healthcare technology and care coordination before turning her focus to one of the most underserved segments in healthcare.
Leroux was drawn to behavioral health because of the scale of unmet need. Substance use disorder treatment, mental health services and opioid treatment programs serve highly vulnerable populations while operating under complex regulatory, billing and clinical requirements.
“Better systems can improve access, documentation quality and compliance - and ultimately the ability of providers to deliver care. The goal is not simply to sell software. It is to help treatment organizations operate more effectively so they can serve more patients.”
One of Leroux’s most consequential decisions was leading Kipu’s shift from a product-led to a platform-led commercial model. Where the company had previously sold individual point solutions, she restructured the revenue organization around a unified platform spanning electronic medical records, revenue cycle management, compliance and AI.
“Providers don’t need more software - they need systems that work together across clinical, financial and compliance functions. That’s the infrastructure we built, and it’s what allows them to grow without adding operational complexity.”
Building a Revenue Organization for Behavioral Health Scale
To support that scale, Leroux built a 60-person revenue organization across three geographic regions with functional leaders in revenue operations, new logo acquisition and existing business growth. She established pipeline frameworks, capacity models and productivity benchmarks that created accountability at every level. Real-time dashboards provide continuous visibility into execution, enabling coaching grounded in data rather than intuition. The organization’s design reflects her conviction that durable growth in behavioral health requires deep domain expertise. She invested in enablement anchored in behavioral health vocabulary, treatment modalities and the operational pressures facing addiction treatment and mental health providers - building a team that engages provider organizations as informed partners.
Her “Customers for Life” philosophy ties commercial incentives directly to client outcomes. Growth is measured not only by new logo acquisition but by net dollar retention, cross-sell penetration and client ability to expand services on the platform - ensuring revenue strategy and provider success remain aligned over the long term.
Advancing Technology Adoption in a Critical Sector
Leroux has been a consistent advocate for responsible AI adoption in behavioral health, where provider trust is hardwon and the stakes of poor implementation are high. Under her commercial leadership, Kipu introduced AI capabilities that reduce documentation burden, accelerate assessments and improve reimbursement accuracy.
“AI in behavioral health has to earn its place inside the clinical workflow - not sit beside it. We only scale what demonstrably reduces burden on providers and improves outcomes for patients.”
Her work has shaped how behavioral health technology is understood at the industry level. As co-host of the webinar “Building What Lasts” and author of “Growth That Lasts: Expanding Behavioral Health Services with Purpose, Data, and AI,” Leroux has contributed to a broader conversation about sustainable growth in a sector under significant regulatory and financial pressure. Recognition as a Top 10 CRO in Healthcare Tech reflects both the commercial results and the mission behind them.
